Anglo’s

Anglo-American Oil Co. Established in 1888 as a subsidiary to the Standard Oil Company of America for distributing in the UK. 

Makers of Pratt’s motor spirit as well as Taxibus and Royal Daylight lamp oil. Responsible for introducing the first hand crank petrol pumps c.1920. Later acquired and merged Redline and Glico and held a controlling interest in Cleveland a few years later. Assisted the Petroleum Board and Pool spirit system during WW2. Name changed to Esso Petroleum Co. Ltd. in 1951
